Old and New Connecticut State House Field Trip

May 22 @ 8:00 am - 2:00 pm

Old and New Connecticut State House Field Trip
Students will visit the Old State House in downtown Hartford, Connecticut. This building served as the State Capitol building for the state of Connecticut beginning in 1796, and was the seat of the state’s government for much of its history. Students will receive a tour of the building, but the primary focus of the trip will be on the trial for the slave ship Amistad, which occurred in large part in this building in 1839. Students will be learning about this case as a part of a unit on the international slave trade in World History I class, and will receive deeper background on this case by visiting the building. Following the Old State House tour, students will eat lunch at State House Square Food Court right next to the building. Students then will go to the current Connecticut State Capitol for a building tour.
