Dear Hampden Charter School of Science Parents/Guardians, Students, and Staff,
As you may know, the number of Covid-19 cases has continued to increase over the last three weeks in our area – putting most of our families in pandemic red zones.
In order to ensure the safety of our students and staff, Hampden Charter School of Science has decided to postpone its Hybrid/In-Person reopening plan indefinitely and continue only with its Online Education Program.
As we maneuver our way through this pandemic, we must remain nimble and our plans flexible as we continue to make decisions based on what’s best for the health and safety of our students and staff. We will be monitoring the situation closely and conferring with local and state health experts to guide future decisions about when it will be safe for your children to return to in-person learning.
We will continue to accept our most vulnerable students in our school buildings for in-person learning for four days (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) during the week. From the beginning of the school year, we have made special accommodations for our most vulnerable students, because we believe we can best provide them with the educational and social-emotional services they need here at our two campuses – and do so safely. By ensuring we have a limited number of people in the building, and engaging in daily sanitizing and cleaning, we can minimize the risk of the spread of COVID-19.
We will continue to maintain the quality of our online program and provide support for all students. Parents can help students ensure a successful learning experience in the following ways:
● Make sure students join the class on time and keep their cameras on. This way, teachers can tell if a student is struggling with a topic;
● Make sure students have an environment to learn that is free of distractions;
● Make sure students come to class dressed appropriately – no pajamas.
Thank you to those parents who participated in our survey. The majority of participants expressed their satisfaction with the program, education, and the progress that the students are making. We will use your input to make our programs even stronger.
